The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development. The 2023 theme reminds us to invest in people and to prioritise education.

We must move ahead, all of us together, each as we are, but always looking to the building of a civilisation of harmony and unity. Education is essential in serving the full flourishing of children and the cause of solidarity, fraternity and the ethic of care. Education must ensure that human needs are met and that our shared home, our planet is nurtured and restored.” – Pope Francis
